Yusuf/Cat Stevens

13 Dec 2017 (Wed)

Spark Arena

TEG DAINTY and Live Nation in association with Moonshadow Aus Pty have announced that British singer-songwriting legend and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Yusuf / Cat Stevens will tour New Zealand in December. A Cats Attic Peace Train Tour commemorates the 50th Anniversary of his first major hit single and debut album Matthew & Son released in 1967.

Last here in 2010 for two rapturously received and sold-out arena concerts, Yusuf / Cat Stevens returns to perform at Spark Arena on Wednesday 13 December, only his second ever tour of New Zealand.

Having first found fame as a teenager in 1960s England, Cat Stevens grew from being a teen idol into becoming one of the most influential singer-songwriters of all time. In addition to his vast musical achievements, his lifelong spiritual quest and search for meaning has added intrigue and depth to a groundbreaking career.

Cat achieved early success in the mid 60s with Matthew and Son, Here Comes My Baby and The First Cut Is The Deepest. In 1968 the heavy workload of non-stop appearances and touring, the excesses of a pop-star lifestyle took its toll and Cat contracted TB. He was hospitalised for several months and began a significant process of inner reflection and meditation. During this time Stevens began to question aspects of his life and spirituality and underwent a profound musical transformation. From 1970 to 1978 he recorded and released the albums that would establish him as a leading singer-songwriter of his generation.

His album, Tea for the Tillerman, from 1970, went multi-platinum in the U.S. and Australasia with such songs as Wild World, Hard Headed Woman, Where Do the Children Play? and Father & Son. It was Teaser and the Firecat in 1971 that made him a megastar, with songs like Morning Has Broken, Peace Train and Moonshadow. In 1975 Cat experienced another momentous and life-changing event after nearly drowning in the Pacific Ocean. Following this he dedicated himself to the Divine path, and on leaving music he concentrated on education and humanitarian relief.

The tragic events of 9/11 motivated Yusuf to, once again, take to the global stage. He spoke out in the media against the atrocities, against fanaticism and war, and called for peace and unity. In 2006 Yusuf returned to mainstream music with the album An Other Cup, which was followed in 2009 by Roadsinger. 2014 was another monumental year for Yusuf, as he released his fourteenth studio album Tell Em Im Gone and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is currently working on a childrens animation series and writing his autobiography, which is expected to surface next year.

Yusuf / Cat Stevens toured New Zealand in 2010 for the first time ever, and the shows had the critics raving:

Wild World, Where Do the Children Play, Moonshadow and Father and Son were delivered in heartfelt style and brought the audience to its feet for multiple encores. - The NZ Herald

it's great to have him backsinging songs whose beauty is often their sheer simplicitythis was like catching up with an old friend. - Newshub

Peace Trainstruck a chord with everyone jammed into the Arenapicking up the pace to finish off a joyous night. - www.stuff.co.nz

This 50th Anniversary Tour is going to be an unmissable night for fans!

Yusef / Cat Stevens is also playing New Plymouth's TSB Bowl of Brooklands on Saturday 16 December and Christchurch's Horncastle Arena on Tuesday 19 December.

Among music legends, Nile Rodgers, Lionel Richies' special guest, is truly exceptional. As the co-founder of CHIC, Rodgers pioneered a musical language that generated chart-topping pop hits like "Le Freak," sparked the advent of hip-hop with "Good Times, and won CHIC eleven Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominations. His work in the CHIC Organisation and his productions for artists like David Bowie and Madonna have sold over 300 million albums and 50 million singles worldwide while his innovative, trendsetting collaborations with Daft Punk, Avicii, Disclosure, and Sam Smith reflect the vanguard of contemporary music. Fueling four decades of pop anthems with more than 200 production credits to his name, the scope of Rodgers' peerless influence is undeniable.

The Lionel Richie and CHIC featuring Nile Rodgers tour promises to be a musical spectacular that will have you singing All Night Long!

Katy Perry

20 Aug 2018 (Mon) - 21 Aug 2018 (Tue)

Spark Arena

Global pop superstar Katy Perry's WITNESS: The Tour, will come to New Zealand next August in support of her new album Witness. Last here in 2014, the 13 time Grammy nominated artist played two shows here at the arena that were instant sell-outs.

WITNESS: The Tour is an imaginative trip from outer-space to inner-space, from the planets to the bottom of our oceans, and a musical journey through Katy Perrys biggest milestones and mega-hits right up to her latest album. The dramatically original staging means that there isnt a bad seat in the house, when Katy brings out her band and dancers, along with all the bells and whistles.

This tour will be Katys first since the sold-out, 151-date Prismatic World Tour, which was hailed by Rolling Stone as a show to damage retinas and blow minds.

With Witness, Katy finds liberation, in the changes in her own life and in the world around her, delivering songs that inspire both thought and movement. The singles released thus far the Gold-certified Chained to the Rhythm featuring Skip Marley, Bon Apptit featuring Migos and the new single Swish Swish featuring Nicki Minaj hint at the breadth of the musical and thematic elements found on Witness.

WITNESS: The Tour will be like nothing you have seen before with insane theatrics and back to back hits. Get your tickets early to avoid disapointment!

A Visa Entertainment pre-sale for Visa cardholders starts 10am Monday 28 August through to 10am Wednesday 30 August, 2017. Go to visaentertainment.co.nz for details.

“Friendly Haven!”

Reviewed 15 November 2015 (FergieT20, Brit in Clover)

What a fabulous hideaway - the staff were amazing, as was the room [ well it was sort of a flat really! ] Gym and pool too........ Nothing was too much trouble from front dest to the girls in the laundry room. Just what you want when youre travelling around and need to catch up. They lent us towels for the beach even - difficult to pack in suitcases when you're travelling with a family. Best place I've stayed in ever tbh

“Great place to stay”

Reviewed 10 August 2015 (Mike P, Melbourne)

I have now stayed at this motel 4 times this year as part of my travel to Auckland for work. Although this place is quite large and has a conference centre I keep going back as the rooms are quiet and well maintained plus the restaurant serves great food! I would especially recommend the Scotch fillet as it just melts in your mouth. The front desk staff (Brenna and Soraya) are great with nothing being too much of a problem. And Kim in the restaurant provides great service. All in all I would recommend this establishment if you don't need to be in the heart of Auckland as its also close to the Motorway so touring is easy.

“Best accomodation in the area”

Reviewed 12 February 2015 (Kirstin C, Wellington)

I travel to Auckland to visit family and friends and have finally found somewhere decent to stay. I have stayed there the last 3 visits and it never disappoints. Great value for money compared to other accommodation in the area and definitely much cleaner. My last trip was with my family and we stayed in a 2 bedroom unit which has plenty of room. And yes the pool is small but my teenage children still enjoyed it and had no complaints. Staff as always were friendly and helpful.

“Probably the best place in the Ellerslie area south of Auckland”

Reviewed 14 November 2014 (Andrew N)

I've stayed in about 4 Motels in the last month around Ellerslie, Great South Road and Newmarket. This motel has the best rooms with good clean rooms, comfortable beds and good service including simple things like real milk, good wifi and a bar and lounge area. Also easy walking distance into Ellerslie and a couple of reasonably good bar/restaurants
